Needless to say? But my "lawyer" made me say it...

Taking the actions I've described will obviously void your mattress warranty.

  1. I am now running into this issue. How much extra life or time have you gotten out of your mattress by doing this?

  2. Hello to all. I am so sorry that I missed the comments on this blog. I thought I had forwarded email to my regular account, which was obviously not the case. Unfortunately, I've also forgotten the login so I can't add new posts! I am a better blogger now, and now have a book that contains all passwords.

When I took these radical measures, the bed felt much better to me, and I could've lived with it that way for quite a while. A few months later, however, my not-small husband proclaimed that he needed a new bed. So shopping we went.

I did all the research, as you all have, and saw that the TempurPedics were the best-rated. I tried to make myself buy a latex mattress, but the thing just wasn't comfortable. We ended up getting a TemperPedic Cloud Supreme model (not sure if it's I or II, but it's got a pillow-top.)

It wasn't as comfortable as the basic mattress we had before, but as least it wasn't a spring mattress. My back hurt slightly, but my husband was satisfied with the mattress. Something I found odd was that when my husband got into or out of the bed, the frame would squeak. I knew something had to be wrong, but we didn't return it.

Fast forward one year. The foam on my husband's side is seriously compressed in spots, particularly where the rump lays. It's so bad that the body lays at an angle in the bed. I'm considerably lighter than my husband, but I can't lie on that side of the bed. It's awful.

We're still paying on this mattress, and can't afford to get another one.

My oldest daughter has a twin mattress with a memory foam topper; the combination is heavenly. I can't think of the name of the mattress right now, but will post it as soon as I find it again. It can be found at Mattress Warehouse, and unfortunately is as pricey as the TempurPedic.

Another TempurPedic in the future? Not for us.

  4. Another update:

My husband and I gave up on our second TempurPedic after owning it a couple of years. The back pain became too much to bear.

I went to Overstock.com and paid $500-$600 for a king size mattress that was made in the USA. We could buy 5 or 6 of these for the same price as one TempurPedic mattress. Even if it lasts only 2 years, we're WAY ahead of the game.
